On the LookOUT

Book review

What would you teach your younger version about love if you could be able to travel back in time? On the lookout for the better half, Diana gets lost in the whirlwind of emotions only to later find her identity on the self-discovery path paved by her writing through the lenses of past relationships. Her introspections create a parallel between her present adult-self, grounded in awareness, and the past younger-self, looking for meaning in the reflection of others. This book illustrates the turbulence of youth, while giving us an insight into the stability of adulthood. As I found myself in these pages, I am convinced that so will others.

Storyteller
Puzzling story, eye-catching game,
Tell you the truth if you give me your name.

Yet, I keep you all in the dark for a while
Until I disclose my artistic style.
One tends to overlook the exact thing that they fell for or, even worse, they try to change it. We evolve as humans – who we are today resembles a part of who we were yesterday, yet there is always new knowledge gained, new feelings experienced, etc. that add little by little to our personality. One can never love another person, unless they fall in love with them day after day for who they are becoming.
Reality Check
It was not a dream. It was insane.
We broke the spell, we cut the chain.

We lose it all, but then we gain,
It’s like running a political campaign.
Advice to younger self: “speak your truth”. Masks should be off in any type of relationship. In my opinion, there are two basic questions we could address ourselves in order to deep dive into our truth: “who am I in reality” and “whom am I posing as”. If the answers to these questions overlap, you are the lucky winner of a mindful introspection that leads to your own authenticity

What’s left to say? I had a blast!
Yet happy to feature a new cast.

Took my learning, done my part,
A second chapter awaits my heart.
It is interesting how one needs to adapt not necessarily their speed, but their pace in order to fi t life, as it is not about the distance, but about the time you travel through life. Time is not something we own, rather it is something we borrow. Therefore, we can’t spend what we do not have, but we can devote it to what brings joy of life and wealth of resources.
The Dancers
Should you make my heart skip a beat,
I promise not to step on your feet.

Should you make my heart beat faster,
We’d be protected from any disaster.
Sometimes promises are so silent, that one has to be very careful so as not to misinterpret them. As unavoidable responsibilities or unplanned scenarios can occur, potential of a relationship has to be backed up by action and dedication. What actually makes a difference between making or breaking a promise is genuine commitment.

Readers' feedback

I recommend readers of “On the LookOUT for the better half” to prepare themselves for a journey filled with honesty, growth and playfulness. At least, this is how it felt for me while getting immersed between its lines. This book is addressed both to those who want to let themselves be carried away by the romantic sarcasm of the poems and to those eager to get a hands-on experience by using the introspection tools provided.

Oana, 34
I enjoyed the playfulness of the poems combined with the self-reflection. I love the brutal honesty of the content, the sharing of ups and downs without any embellishments. I particularly liked the butterfly metaphor, the dating checklist and the relationship rollercoaster. I recognized a younger version of me in these poems and would recommend a young me to read the book. Favourite quotes: “If somebody you know becomes somebody you knew, trust that one day this pain will make sense to you.” and “Calling for something to happen in your life, without you being ready to embrace it, it’s a lost opportunity .”

Naniko, 32
One book which sparks vulnerability and authenticity when being confronted with situations inspired from real-life! I found myself in many fragments, yet the objectivity with which the reflection takes place is truly inspiring. Between the lines of this book one can find the missing puzzle from their story, can start their own rediscovery journey or can switch perspectives to also consider learnings from less pleasant experiences.
